RESEARCHERS & BENEFICIARIES
RESEARCHERS & BENEFICIARIES from SPINODYSSEY 2009:

Dr. Marc Mendillo of the Whitehead Institute at MIT
Dr. Marc Mendillo of the Whitehead Institute at MIT
http://www.wi.mit.edu/
Field of Study is Cancer Biology: His research studies the role of heat shock response in tumor initiation and progession. Cells protect themselves from stress, and one form of stress is temperature stress. There is an HFS1protein that influences heat stress, and he will be investigating the role of the HFS1 protein, and what can be done to this protein to control/prevent tumorgenesis by controlling heat stress.

Dr. Daniel Nomura of The Scripps Research Institute

Dr. Daniel Nomura of The Scripps Research Institute

Field of Study is Chemical Physiology His research focuses on the metabolic pathways inside cells, especially the lipid (fat) metabolism pathway. There is an enzyme (MAGL) that plays a key role in regulating free fatty acid levels in aggressive cancer cells. He will investigate this and other enzymes that become elevated in agressive cancer cells. He hopes to reveal key biochemical markers that support the disease progression and identify new drugs targets and diagnostic biomarkers.
